Android 17 Split UI Elements Tipped

Google is gearing up to release Android 17, and while there are some exciting updates in the pipeline, there are also a few changes that might not sit well with everyone. The first developer preview of Android 17 is highly anticipated, especially since Android 16 made its debut in November 2024.

According to Mystic Leaks, a reliable tipster, Android 17 will bring back the separate toggles for Wi-Fi and mobile data controls. This means users will once again have the option to toggle between mobile data and Wi-Fi connectivity from the drop-down menu. This change is likely to be welcomed by users who have faced connectivity issues in the past.

On the flip side, Google is also planning to split the Notification and Quick Settings menus into two separate panes. Users will now have to swipe down from the right corner for toggles and from the left for notifications. While some users prefer a more integrated approach, others appreciate having these menus separated. This split UI design is not entirely new, as many Android manufacturers, including Xiaomi, Honor, Oppo, and Samsung, have already adopted similar layouts.

It appears that Google will make this dual-pane interface optional for smartphones, allowing users to choose their preferred layout. However, tablet and foldable users may be required to use the split notification UI. It remains to be seen how users will respond to this change once they get their hands on the new update.

Overall, Android 17 promises to bring a mix of welcome changes and potential challenges for users. With the first public beta expected to be released soon, it won’t be long before we can experience these updates firsthand. Stay tuned for more information on Google’s latest mobile OS.
