A shocking incident occurred on a Bronx train when a 17-year-old boy was viciously slashed in the face by a stranger wielding a boxcutter. The altercation began when the teen accidentally bumped into the other passenger while boarding the No. 3 train at the Third Avenue-149th Street Subway station in Mott Haven. The seemingly innocent bump escalated into a violent confrontation, with the aggressor accusing the boy of pushing him.

In a fit of rage, the assailant brandished a boxcutter and sliced the teen on the left side of his face before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he received medical attention and was listed in stable condition. The culprit remains at large, prompting a citywide search by law enforcement authorities. A surveillance image of the suspect has been released in hopes of identifying and apprehending him.

Despite this disturbing incident, city officials have reported a 4% decrease in major subway crimes in 2025 compared to the previous year. Notably, robberies have reached an all-time low, dropping by 12.5%, and shootings have plummeted by 62.5%. These statistics offer some reassurance amid concerns about public safety on public transportation.

Individuals with any information regarding the perpetrator of this attack are urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Tips can also be submitted online at the Crime Stoppers website or through social media platforms using the handle @NYPDTips. It is crucial for the community to come together and assist law enforcement in bringing the assailant to justice and ensuring the safety of all passengers on the city’s subway system.
