Arielle Bobb-Willis, a Los Angeles-based photographer, brings a unique blend of color, movement, and expertly choreographed gestures to her work, blurring the lines between art and fashion photography. In her monograph titled “Keep the Kid Alive,” published by Aperture, Bobb-Willis showcases 90 of her captivating images that challenge the notion that Black expression is limited or limiting.

From models dressed in vibrant, color-blocked garments posing in parks to alleyways, Bobb-Willis’s photographs exude a sense of joy and vibrancy that transforms ordinary spaces into scenes of beauty and exuberance. Each image is carefully composed, with bold, conceptual elements that invite viewers to observe and imagine the world around them in new and unexpected ways.

Bobb-Willis’s journey with photography began at the age of 14, and over the years, she has used the medium as a form of catharsis and self-expression. Moving from New York to Aiken, South Carolina, to New Orleans, Bobb-Willis found solace and inspiration in capturing the world through her lens, allowing her to develop her unique style and confidence as an artist.

In an interview featured in the book, Bobb-Willis shares her love for finding beauty in everyday moments, from unexpected rainbows to children’s chalk drawings on the sidewalk. She describes photography as a daily practice of falling in love with the world around her, capturing moments that inspire awe and wonder.

“Keep the Kid Alive” is a testament to Bobb-Willis’s creative vision and artistic talent, showcasing her ability to transform mundane settings into vibrant, dynamic scenes. The monograph is available for purchase on Bookshop, and more of Bobb-Willis’s work can be explored on her website and Instagram.
