Real Madrid have reportedly made the decision to part ways with former Liverpool star Trent Alexander-Arnold. The Spanish giants have informed him that he needs to find a new club, just months after his signing from the Premier League side.

According to a report in El Nacional, Alexander-Arnold has been formally told by new manager Alvaro Arbeloa that he has no future at Santiago Bernabeu. Arbeloa pointed out the right-back’s defensive weaknesses as the primary reason for this decision.

The report also states that Alexander-Arnold has struggled to adapt in Spain, despite spending most of his time with his countryman, Jude Bellingham. The defender has been labeled as ‘predictable’ at both ends of the pitch by the new manager, who has not included him in a matchday squad this month due to fitness issues.

Currently dealing with a muscle tear, Alexander-Arnold is not expected to return to action until the start of February. Since December, he has been sidelined, leading Federico Valverde to fill in as the makeshift right-back, as Dani Carvajal has also been struggling with injuries.

Real Madrid paid €10 million to Liverpool in May 2025 to acquire Alexander-Arnold, as they sought to add him to their FIFA Club World Cup squad. Although he was initially set to join on a free transfer, Los Blancos wanted him to make his debut a month before his contract at Anfield expired.

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher had warned Alexander-Arnold about tarnishing his legacy at Liverpool by moving to Real Madrid. Carragher recalled how the fans treated Steven McManaman following his move to Los Blancos and emphasized the importance of considering the emotional impact on the fans.

Alexander-Arnold has only played 16 matches for Real Madrid since his transfer to the club. The decision to part ways with him highlights the challenges he has faced in adapting to a new league and a new team. As he looks for a new club, it remains to be seen where the talented right-back will land next in his career.
