ABC News Studios and Diane Sawyer are set to release a new special event titled “The Turpins: A New House of Horror,” airing on ABC on Feb. 3 at 10 p.m. ET. The one-hour interview will also be available for streaming the following day on Disney+ and Hulu.

The Turpin case gained widespread attention in 2018 when 13 children and adult dependents, aged between two and 29, were rescued from their parents’ home in Perris, California.

In 2021, Diane Sawyer conducted an interview with two of the Turpin daughters, including Jordan Turpin, who initially reported the case to the authorities. The upcoming special will feature three more Turpin siblings sharing their stories for the first time, shedding light on their experiences in the foster care system and the challenges they faced after their parents’ imprisonment.

The ordeal began in January 2018 when 17-year-old Jordan Turpin managed to escape and call 911 after overhearing her parents discussing relocating the family. Upon investigation, the police discovered appalling conditions in the residence, including human waste, rotting garbage, deceased pets, and spoiled food. The children were found with bruises, malnourished, and some were even chained to their beds.

The parents, David and Louise Turpin, were convicted in December 2019 and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after 25 years. They faced multiple charges, including torture, false imprisonment, abuse of dependent adults, and child abuse.

Following the success of Sawyer’s initial interview titled “Escape From A House Of Horror,” which garnered over 7 million viewers, “The Turpins: A New House of Horror” is expected to delve deeper into the family’s harrowing story. The special is produced by ABC News Studios, with David Sloan as senior executive producer and Christina Ng as executive producer.
