A federal grand jury in Rhode Island has recently indicted two former executives of pain management device company Zynex Medical on multiple counts of health care fraud. The indictment alleges that former Chief Executive Officer Thomas Sandgaard and Chief Operating Officer Anna Lucsok engaged in fraudulent activities from 2017 to 2025, securing millions of dollars from government and commercial insurers, as well as patients. Additionally, the jury claims that the two individuals defrauded investors by concealing the fact that the company’s revenues were obtained through fraudulent means.

United States Attorney Charles Calenda expressed concern over the case, stating, “This case represents a troubling abuse of patients seeking care, as well as the federal healthcare benefit system.” The alleged fraudulent activities not only impacted patients and the healthcare system but also had a significant impact on investors who were misled about the company’s financial status.

The indictment sheds light on the importance of transparency and integrity in the healthcare industry, emphasizing the need for accountability and ethical practices. The case serves as a reminder of the consequences of fraudulent behavior and the importance of upholding ethical standards in the healthcare sector.

As this story continues to unfold, it highlights the ongoing challenges and complexities within the healthcare industry. It underscores the importance of regulatory oversight and the need for strict enforcement of laws to prevent fraud and protect patients, insurers, and investors alike. The case serves as a cautionary tale for companies and individuals operating in the healthcare space, emphasizing the importance of honesty, integrity, and compliance with regulations.
