If you were one of the many Gmail users experiencing issues with your account on Saturday, you were not alone. Google confirmed that there was a problem, but reassured users that it has since been resolved.

According to the official status dashboard for Google Workspace, the issues began around 5am Pacific time on Saturday. Users reported problems such as emails being misclassified in their inbox and receiving additional spam warnings.

Personally, I noticed that my Primary inbox was cluttered with emails that would normally be in other categories like Promotions or Updates. Additionally, I was receiving spam warnings on emails from senders I knew. Other users took to social media to complain about all spam going directly to their inbox and Gmail’s filters appearing to be malfunctioning.

Throughout the day on Saturday, Google provided updates on their dashboard stating that they were actively working to fix the issue. By Saturday evening, Google announced that the problem had been fully resolved for all users.

The company explained, “Some Gmail users experienced a misclassification of emails in their inbox, delays in receiving email, and misclassified spam warnings from the incident may persist for existing messages received before the issue resolution.”

Google also mentioned that they will be conducting an internal investigation and will publish an analysis of the incident once it is completed.

This post was originally published on January 24, 2026, and has been updated to reflect Google’s statement regarding the issue resolution.
