Chappell Roan surprised everyone on “Saturday Night Live” with her unexpected country performance, showcasing a new song that combines country music with LGBTQ+ themes. The song, which may be titled “I Get the Job Done” or “She Gets the Job Done,” challenges traditional gender roles by asserting that only a woman knows how to treat another woman right.

Roan’s performance featured a bold new look, with her band and background singers sporting denim and Western-wear shirts while she donned a gingham-style halter top, short-shorts, and boots reminiscent of “The Dukes of Hazzard.” The lyrics of the song were risque yet empowering, celebrating female empowerment and pleasure.

Despite the country twist, Roan’s performance was well-received by the audience, with fans eagerly anticipating the release of her new album. Roan, who had dreamt of being on SNL since she was 13 years old, finally achieved her goal with this memorable performance.

The move towards country music may signal a new direction for Roan’s sophomore album, or it could be a one-time experiment. Regardless, she joins other pop artists like Beyonce, Post Malone, and Lana Del Rey who have explored the country genre in recent times.

Lesbian country songs are not new, with artists like the Highwomen paving the way for this subgenre. Roan’s producer, Dan Nigro, will join her in a discussion moderated by Brandi Carlile in Los Angeles, where they may delve deeper into the themes of LGBTQ+ representation in country music.

As fans eagerly await Roan’s next move, the question remains: will she be invited to perform at the Grand Ole Opry? Only time will tell as Roan continues to push boundaries and defy expectations in her music career.
