Meet New York’s Newest Finest: Honorary NYPD Officer Miller Greenfield
Miller Greenfield, a 17-year-old from California, fulfilled his lifelong dream of protecting and serving as he was sworn in as an honorary NYPD police officer for a day. Despite battling a rare neurodegenerative disease, Greenfield beamed with pride as NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch administered the oath of office during a heartwarming ceremony at 1 Police Plaza.
Greenfield, who hails from Sacramento, had previously connected with his local police department through the Make-A-Wish Foundation before undergoing brain surgery in 2019. His wish was to meet the Sacramento Police Department’s chief and become a police officer.
Despite his health challenges, Greenfield has continued to participate in police activities and has shown remarkable progress. His father, Johnny Greenfield, expressed pride in his son’s determination and resilience.
Tisch and her team had a full day of activities planned for Greenfield, including a commissioner’s briefing, a tour of various police units, and a visit to the NYPD’s Joint Operations Center. The experience left Greenfield impressed and inspired to pursue a career in law enforcement.
As Greenfield left a personal message in Tisch’s logbook declaring “NYPD is better than SacPD,” the officers around him cheered. His father added, “Lt. Miller is my hero,” reinforcing the impact of his son’s bravery and spirit.
