Henrik Vibskov Celebrates 25 Years at Copenhagen Fashion Week
As Henrik Vibskov commemorates his 25th anniversary in the fashion industry, Copenhagen Fashion Week is also marking its 20th milestone. The synchronicity of these two major events is no coincidence, as Vibskov has played a pivotal role in shaping the fashion landscape in Copenhagen since his return to his hometown after graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2001. His innovative designs and cross-media approach to fashion have set him apart and paved the way for a new wave of creativity in the city.
The latest showcase of Vibskov’s creativity was seen in his Fall 2026 show, held at the Østre Gasværk Theater. The theatrical presentation featured models walking in a circular formation around individuals carrying ladders on their backs, with weights being added or removed from the ladders throughout the show. Danish actress Linnea Berthelsen, known for her role in Stranger Things, opened the show wearing an amphibian-patterned sweater paired with a white shirt and a unique hat.
The collection showcased a mix of jacquard wovens inspired by natural elements like moss and mycelium, alongside traditional menswear fabrics such as checks and plaids. Standout pieces included a cape-shouldered rain poncho with a matching hat, adding a whimsical touch to the overall aesthetic. Vibskov’s use of custom-designed materials continued to be a defining feature of his work.
The theme of the show, titled “Frog Carry Frog,” was inspired by Vibskov’s encounter with a fire-belly frog on a Danish island. The designer’s creative process delved into the concept of shared weight, exploring themes of emotional baggage, collective labor, and the unseen systems that sustain life. While the connection to current events was not intentional, the relevance of these themes became increasingly apparent as the show unfolded.
Vibskov’s innovative vision and contribution to the fashion industry were recognized last year when he received a lifelong honorary award from Statens Kunstfond, solidifying his status as a pioneering force in the world of creativity.
