Longtime PR Expert Nancy Seltzer Passes Away at 79
Nancy Seltzer, a renowned public relations expert who represented a roster of celebrity clients such as Garth Brooks, Sean Connery, and many others, passed away on Wednesday in Los Angeles. She was 79 years old.
“Public relations is the toughest job in show business,” remarked Garth Brooks in a heartfelt statement. “Nancy always handled every situation with grace and class.”
Throughout her illustrious career, Seltzer worked with a myriad of actors including Richard Burton, Robert Downey Jr., Whitney Houston, and many more. She was a familiar face on the red carpet as the head publicist at the Academy Awards for numerous years.
The boutique publicity firm, Nancy Seltzer & Associates, which she founded, had offices on both the East and West coasts and represented clients across various industries such as film, music, theater, and literature.
Starting her career in New York before relocating to Los Angeles, Seltzer went on to represent top names in the entertainment industry including Bette Davis, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, and Placido Domingo. She also worked with bestselling author Danielle Steel.
Notable films that Seltzer promoted include “Pirates of the Caribbean,” “Silence of the Lambs,” and “The Shawshank Redemption.” She was involved in the Academy Award campaigns for films like “Amadeus,” “Misery,” and “Dead Man Walking.”
Her firm described Seltzer as someone who built lasting friendships with people worldwide, known for her kindness, care, and unwavering loyalty.
Seltzer is survived by her parents, Nathan and Anne Seltzer, and was preceded in death by her brother, Norman Seltzer. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Tower Cancer Research Foundation.
