Nvidia CEO Denies Reports of Friction with OpenAI

Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has refuted claims of tension between his company and OpenAI, calling recent reports “nonsense.”

The Wall Street Journal published an article alleging that Nvidia was considering scaling back its investment in OpenAI, a partnership that was announced in September, involving a potential $100 billion investment and infrastructure development for the AI company.

Despite the report, Huang clarified that the deal is nonbinding and dismissed criticisms of OpenAI’s business strategy. While discussions have reportedly shifted towards a smaller equity investment from Nvidia, the partnership is still being actively worked on.

An OpenAI spokesperson emphasized the importance of Nvidia’s contribution to their advancements and future plans, stating that the company has been essential to their progress and will continue to play a central role in their growth.

During a visit to Taipei, Huang reaffirmed Nvidia’s commitment to participating in OpenAI’s upcoming funding round, highlighting the significant impact and potential of the company’s work. He expressed confidence in OpenAI’s innovations and described them as a key player in shaping the current technological landscape.

While Huang did not disclose the exact amount of Nvidia’s investment, he expressed confidence in OpenAI’s fundraising efforts and deferred the announcement to OpenAI’s CEO, Sam Altman. OpenAI is reportedly seeking a $100 billion funding round, with various tech giants like Nvidia, Amazon, Microsoft, and SoftBank considering investment opportunities.
