During a heated exchange on Friday, former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) clashed with Bill Maher over the arrest of former CNN host Don Lemon, with Maher criticizing President Donald Trump and his administration.

Maher, on his “Real Time” show, discussed the presence of ICE and CBP agents in Minnesota, highlighting that such incidents did not occur during the Obama administration.

When Maher mentioned Lemon’s arrest, an audience member cheered, prompting Maher to emphasize that it was not a positive development. Greene then cited the FACE Act, which prohibits the use of force to obstruct access to reproductive health services or places of worship.

Lemon was arrested in Los Angeles for his coverage of an anti-ICE protest, where he was reporting on the event at a church in St. Paul, Minnesota. Greene criticized Lemon for disrupting worship and comparing the protesters to white supremacists.

As the discussion continued, Greene argued that Lemon’s actions violated the FACE Act by impeding people’s right to worship. Maher questioned whether Lemon’s behavior warranted arrest, while Greene maintained her support for Lemon’s arrest.

Another guest, Joe Scarborough, defended Lemon, suggesting that he was simply doing his job as a journalist and that the real focus should be on the protesters who disrupted the church service.

The debate highlighted differing opinions on the role of journalists in such situations and the implications of government intervention in press freedom.

The discussion underscored the complex issues surrounding journalism ethics, freedom of the press, and the boundaries of reporting in sensitive situations.
