A strong winter storm system, including a powerful low-pressure “bomb cyclone” along the East Coast, is impacting a wide area of the country and pushing frigid air deep into the Southeast.

In southern Florida, temperatures dropped into the 20s on Sunday morning, marking the coldest weather since 1989, according to the National Weather Service. Record low temperatures were reported across the state, with freezing conditions and extremely cold air moving down the Florida Peninsula.

Florida, not accustomed to such cold temperatures, faces challenges as many residents lack adequate heating and cold-weather gear. Despite the cold, some Floridians continued with their outdoor activities, adapting to the unusual weather conditions.

The cold snap in Florida also led to the phenomenon of cold-stunned iguanas falling from trees, prompting authorities to issue special directives for handling the situation.
