A violent altercation during an anti-ICE protest in Texas has left a community in shock. The incident involved high school students from Hays Consolidated Independent School District and a 45-year-old man named Chad Michael Watts. The altercation, caught on camera, showed Watts allegedly assaulting a teenage girl and engaging in a brawl with the students.

The students had gathered in Buda, Texas to protest against US Immigration and Customs Enforcement when the confrontation occurred. In the viral video, Watts can be seen pushing and shoving the girl to the ground, while her friends tried to intervene. He then turned his aggression towards a male student before being overpowered by another teen.

The situation escalated as more students joined in, punching and kicking Watts before he retreated to his truck. Despite suffering minor injuries, both Watts and the girl declined medical attention when the police arrived. However, after further investigation, Watts was arrested and charged with two counts of assault causing bodily injury.

The mugshot taken after his arrest showed Watts with a bald head and clean-shaven face, a stark contrast from his appearance during the altercation. Hays County judge Ruben Becerra condemned Watts’ actions, emphasizing the need for adults to exercise restraint, especially in the presence of children.

In response to the incident, school officials implemented new policies regarding student protests. Superintendent Dr. Eric Wright expressed concerns about the strain on resources and the impact on students’ self-interests. The new policies include requiring parents to physically sign their children out of school for protests and reinstating Saturday detention for unexcused absences.

The disturbing incident serves as a reminder of the importance of peaceful demonstrations and the need for responsible behavior, particularly when minors are involved. It also highlights the challenges faced by schools and law enforcement in managing such situations while ensuring the safety and well-being of students.
