Canadian-born pop sensation Tate McRae is facing backlash in her home country after appearing in an NBC ad that celebrates Team USA at the Winter Olympics. The ad, which features McRae in ski gear seeking directions to the opening ceremony, has sparked criticism from Canadians questioning her loyalty to her native land.

McRae, whose album “So Close to What” topped the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, has been a resident of New York City since last year. Despite her Canadian roots in Calgary, Alberta, where she is a fan of the NHL team Calgary Flames, McRae’s support for Team USA in the ad has not been well-received by some.

Virgin Radio Toronto hosts Daryn Jones and Deepa Prashad expressed their disappointment, with Prashad even questioning if McRae was a “sellout” for promoting Team USA. Social media users also joined in the criticism, with one calling her an “Albertan traitor” for showing support to American athletes.

As the Winter Olympics get underway, McRae’s decision to align herself with Team USA has stirred up a debate about national pride and loyalty. JS has reached out to McRae’s representatives for comment on the controversy.

The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics is scheduled to take place at San Siro Stadium in Milan, with competitions already underway. It remains to be seen how McRae will address the backlash and whether she will clarify her stance on supporting Team USA.
