Steve Carell Returns to College in HBO Comedy “Rooster”

Steve Carell is set to star in the upcoming HBO comedy series “Rooster,” created by Bill Lawrence and Matt Tarses. The 10-episode show is scheduled to premiere on March 8 at 10 p.m. on HBO, with episodes airing weekly through May 10.

In “Rooster,” Carell plays a bestselling author who visits his daughter, a professor at a college where scandalous events have recently unfolded. His daughter accidentally burned down a faculty house and intentionally punched her husband, who left her for a graduate student. Carell’s character is persuaded to get involved on campus, where he befriends students, attends frat parties, and tries to embody the persona of the studly protagonist from his book series, nicknamed “Rooster.”

The series also features Danielle Deadwyler, Phil Dunster from “Ted Lasso,” John C. McGinley, and Lauren Tsai in supporting roles. “Rooster” is produced by Lawrence, Tarses, Jeff Ingold, and Liza Katzer for Doozer, with a team of executive producers that include Jonathan Krisel, Barbie Adler, and Steve Carell himself. The show is produced by Warner Bros. Television.

Steve Carell, known for his role as Michael Scott in “The Office,” has recently starred in HBO’s “Mountainhead” and Tina Fey’s Netflix series “The Four Seasons.” Meanwhile, Bill Lawrence is busy with producing roles on Apple TV’s “Shrinking,” “Ted Lasso,” and “Bad Monkey,” as well as the upcoming reboot of “Scrubs” on ABC.

Don’t miss the trailer for “Rooster” below, and mark your calendars for the premiere on HBO this March.
