An individual who was reportedly acting irrationally and stabbed a stranger in the back at a Lower Manhattan subway station last week has been apprehended, authorities announced on Wednesday.

Dariel Castillo, 28 years old with a history of four prior arrests, has been charged with assault for allegedly attacking a 51-year-old man at the Broadway-Lafayette station around 5:10 a.m. on January 28, according to police reports.

The altercation apparently began when Castillo initiated a confrontation with the victim on the station steps for reasons that are still unknown. He then escalated the situation by repeatedly stabbing the man in the back with a knife, as per law enforcement officials.
