A 13-year-old boy has been taken into custody after allegedly stabbing a school safety agent in Brooklyn. The incident occurred as the agent attempted to break up a fight between two middle school students near IS 285, the Meyer Levin Middle School for the Performing Arts in East Flatbush. The 53-year-old woman was stabbed in the calf during the altercation, which took place at 3:10 p.m. on Wednesday.
The teenager has been charged with felony assault and will face proceedings in Family Court as a juvenile. The injured agent was transported to Kings County Hospital Center and is currently in stable condition.
The school, which enrolls approximately 750 students in grades 6, 7, and 8, does not have metal detectors to screen for weapons upon entry. This lack of security measures has raised concerns about safety within the school premises.
In a separate incident, authorities responded to a pepper spray incident at the same school, affecting up to 25 students. The use of pepper spray further highlights the need for enhanced security measures to ensure the safety of students and staff members.
The arrest of the 13-year-old boy and the subsequent incidents at the school have sparked discussions about the importance of implementing stricter safety protocols to prevent violence on school grounds. As the case progresses through the legal system, the community and school officials are expected to address the underlying issues and work towards creating a secure learning environment for all students.
