The spring/summer 2026 season saw a wave of designer debuts at major fashion houses, bringing forth a number of exciting bag trends. Matthieu Blazy made a splash with his take on Chanel’s iconic 2.55 bags, incorporating wire reinforcement to create a warped and aged effect. This exploration of time and nostalgia set the tone for the season’s accessory trends.

Newcomers delved into the archives to reinvent classic bags: Pierpaolo Piccioli updated Balenciaga’s Le City bag, Jonathan Anderson put a modern twist on the Lady Dior, and Michael Rider resurrected Phoebe Philo’s Phantom bag at Celine. The resurgence of these iconic styles added a sense of heritage and tradition to the collections.

Ladylike bags made a strong comeback on the runways, with sleek silhouettes and understated hardware reminiscent of 1940s and ’50s purses. The angular top handles featured in Jonathan Anderson’s collection for Dior epitomized this refined aesthetic, offering a fresh take on classic femininity.

Chain-handled bags emerged as another prominent trend, seen across brands like Chloé, Ferragamo, Stella McCartney, Valentino, Givenchy, and Chanel. The Maison’s signature chain detailing extended beyond handbags to shirt hemlines in a unique collaboration with Charvet, showcasing the versatility of this timeless accessory.

Small pouches in vibrant colors like marigold, lilac, and powder pink stole the spotlight at Prada, Loewe, Miu Miu, Celine, and Valentino. These drawstring duster pouches added a touch of whimsy and playfulness to the season’s offerings, proving that good things do come in small packages.

Cobalt blue emerged as the standout hue of the season, with brands like Fendi and Victoria Beckham embracing bold, saturated shades that demand attention. Slouchy shoulder bags from Altuzarra, Kallmeyer, and Toteme, as well as bowling bags from Jil Sander, Balenciaga, and Louis Vuitton, rounded out the diverse range of shapes and styles on display.

The key takeaway from the spring/summer 2026 bag trends is the emphasis on versatility and individuality. Whether you prefer a structured ladylike bag or a slouchy, undone tote, there’s a style to suit every personality and aesthetic. As the new collections continue to arrive in stores, keep an eye out for these key trends that are sure to make a statement in the world of fashion.
