The Big Apple Set to Thaw Out Slightly After Bone-Chilling Temperatures
New Yorkers can expect a slight relief from the freezing temperatures as the thermometer is set to rise starting Tuesday. Forecasters predict that the city will experience highs in the 40s on Wednesday, marking the first time in weeks.
Chad Merrill, a meteorologist at AccuWeather, stated, “The next 24 hours is trending towards warmer temperatures. The coldest weather of the season is departing as we speak.”
Wednesday is forecasted to have a high of 41 degrees, followed by slightly lower temperatures of 34 and 35 degrees on Thursday and Friday, respectively.
Forecasters predict that for most of the following week, temperatures will reach into the 40s, a stark contrast to the recent freezing conditions. Over the weekend, temperatures dropped to 3 degrees, with wind chills making it feel like 14 degrees below zero.
During the historic freeze, the outdoor death toll rose to 18, with a tragic incident in the Bronx where a person was found dead on the street. In Brooklyn, hundreds of residents endured a power outage during the cold snap.
