Musicboard, a popular app for music discovery and recommendations, has been facing challenges recently, as reported by its users. Issues such as outages, website downtime, and the disappearance of the Android app from the Play Store have caused concern among its dedicated user base. Despite being downloaded over 462,000 times, according to market intelligence provider Appfigures, Musicboard users have been left in the dark without any communication from the app’s operators.
On Reddit, users have been sharing alternative music apps and offering support to each other while they await updates on Musicboard’s status. The lack of communication from the app’s team has led users to seek help from the press to reach out to someone for assistance, even if it’s just to export their data before any potential shutdown.
In response to the growing concern, a group of users initiated the “Help Save Musicboard” campaign to raise awareness and address the long-term sustainability of the app and its community. Led by a user known as Lavarini, the initiative is run by volunteers who are dedicated to keeping Musicboard alive and thriving.
JS reached out to Musicboard for clarification on the situation and received a brief statement from the team. The statement addressed the recent outages as “temporary downtime” and assured users that the app is not shutting down. The team mentioned that they are working with Google Play to restore the app to the store and emphasized that Musicboard will remain operational with proper communication to users.
Despite the reassurances from the Musicboard team, questions about the app’s long-term stability and future plans remain unanswered. The founders of Musicboard, Johannes Vermandois and Erik Heimer, have been involved in other projects, including the AI app Frank AI, which faced challenges with a potential acquisition that fell through in 2024.
As efforts to save Musicboard continue, users are determined to support the app and its community for the long term. The Help Save Musicboard initiative aims to generate awareness and foster discussions about the app’s sustainability and the importance of its user base. With ongoing support from dedicated users, Musicboard hopes to overcome its current challenges and thrive in the competitive music app market.
