Books Newsletter
Our favorite art books for February include a diverse range of publications that showcase the work of talented artists and explore important themes in the art world. From the vibrant paintings of Kaylene Whiskey to the powerful activism of Pyaari Azaadi, these books offer a glimpse into the rich tapestry of contemporary art.
One standout publication is the Equal Justice Initiative’s study of Legacy Sites in Montgomery, Alabama, which delves into the history of racial justice in the United States through compelling photographs. Another must-read is “Otherhow” by artist Joseph Grigley, a poignant reflection on personal advocacy and the challenges of navigating the art world as a deaf artist.
In addition to these titles, we’re excited to dive into a new study by William E. Wallace that explores the supposed rivalry between Michelangelo and Titian. Through Wallace’s “informed imagination,” readers are taken on a journey to uncover the complex relationship between these two artistic geniuses.
Claude Cahun’s memoir, “Cancelled Confessions,” also promises to be a fascinating read, offering a unique perspective on survival and self-expression through dialogues, sketches, and proverbs. And a new anthology on plastics in art sheds light on the philosophical implications of this ubiquitous material in contemporary art.
For more Renaissance reads, be sure to explore a book on Piero di Cosimo, a Renaissance painter whose work is often overlooked but deserves closer examination. And delve into the mysterious world of Giorgione, a painter whose enigmatic works continue to captivate audiences centuries later.
With a diverse selection of art books to choose from this February, there’s something for every art lover to enjoy. Explore these titles and more to deepen your understanding of the art world and discover new perspectives on creativity and expression.
