22-Year-Old Man Fatally Shot in Boystown Carjacking

A tragic incident unfolded in Boystown in the early hours of Wednesday morning as a 22-year-old man lost his life in a violent carjacking. Shockingly, less than an hour later, another man was discovered dead next to the stolen vehicle on the South Side of Chicago, raising suspicions that he may have been one of the carjackers involved in the crime, as per Chicago police and law enforcement sources.

The horrifying ordeal began at approximately 3:59 a.m. in the 700 block of West Waveland Avenue, where two individuals were seated inside a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. Two armed male suspects approached the vehicle, brandished firearms, and demanded the victims’ car and personal belongings before firing shots, according to police reports.

Tragically, the 22-year-old victim was struck by gunfire, while the 38-year-old companion escaped physical harm. Despite immediate medical assistance, including CPR and chest seals applied by officers, the young victim succumbed to his injuries at Illinois Masonic Hospital. It was determined that a fatal shot had pierced his heart.

Shortly after 4 a.m., a Chicago Police Department license plate reader detected the stolen vehicle traveling in the 100 block of West 31st Street, further intensifying the ongoing investigation.

Approximately 50 minutes later, a passerby made a grim discovery in the 3700 block of South Lake Park Avenue in Oakland, stumbling upon an unresponsive male lying on the ground. The man, aged between 30 and 40 years old, had sustained a gunshot wound to his head and was found adjacent to the hijacked Hyundai from the Boystown incident. The vehicle’s doors were ajar, with its blinker signaling distress.

Regrettably, the man was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. At the time of reporting, his identity remained undisclosed.

This Boystown tragedy marks the first shooting incident in Lakeview this year, as confirmed by local law enforcement.
