Exciting Ski Season Kickoff in Colorado Mountains

As massive snowfall blankets the mountains this week, ski enthusiasts are gearing up for an incredible weekend on the slopes. Four major ski areas are set to open for the season, offering prime conditions for winter sports enthusiasts.

Among the ski resorts opening their doors are Copper Mountain, Winter Park, Breckenridge, and Eldora. Copper Mountain has received an impressive 28 inches of snow since the recent storms began, while Winter Park and Breckenridge have seen 16 and 14 inches respectively. Eldora, with 14 inches of fresh powder, is also set to open its slopes on Thursday. In total, sixteen ski areas have received a foot or more of snow in the past five days, setting the stage for a fantastic start to the season.

With Wolf Creek reporting 21 inches and Echo Mountain boasting 17 inches of snowfall, skiers and snowboarders can expect excellent conditions at these resorts. In addition to the already open Wolf Creek, Keystone and Arapahoe Basin, the upcoming openings will bring the total number of operational ski areas in Colorado to seven.

Eldora’s early opening is a welcome surprise for snowsports enthusiasts, with the Alpenglow chair set to operate from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekdays and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends. Three trails with a 1,000-foot vertical drop will be open, along with a small terrain park. While no beginner terrain will be available initially, the resort promises an exciting experience for all visitors.

Looking ahead, more snow is forecasted for the region, with Wolf Creek expected to receive an additional 15 inches in the next five days. Other ski areas like Monarch, Echo Mountain, and Eldora are also projected to receive significant snowfall, making for excellent conditions throughout the week.
