Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza has debunked fake news circulating on social media following their historic victory over Australia in the ongoing 2026 T20 World Cup. Raza clarified that he did not make any derogatory comments about Australia, as falsely claimed by a social media user. Expressing his dismay over the spread of misinformation, Raza took to X to set the record straight, stating, “FAKE STATEMENT I am not sure why people would spread lies and fake news, not sure what they get out of this. Never said anything like this.”

The controversy arose after a post by Cricket Central on Twitter quoted Raza making a statement about Australia. The post alleged that Raza had retaliated against Australia’s pre-match taunts by calling them a small team and asserting that Zimbabwe had answered them with their performance on the field.

In response to the victory, Raza commended his team for sticking to their game plan against the formidable Australian side. Despite the triumph, the seasoned all-rounder emphasized the importance of not underestimating their upcoming group-stage matches.

During a post-match interview with ESPNcricinfo, Raza reflected on the team’s strategy, stating, “The culture, environment, and unity we’ve created is amazing and on top of that, to win is unbelievable. 70-odd at 10 overs and I was happy and we discussed that we don’t want to go for 190. We try to go for 190, we are 140 all out.” He emphasized the need for consistency and focus in the upcoming fixtures to maintain their winning momentum.

In the match against Australia, Zimbabwe posted a competitive total of 169/2 in 20 overs, with opener Brian Benett leading the charge with an unbeaten 64 off 56 balls. The Zimbabwean bowlers then put up a stellar performance to restrict Australia to 146 all out, with Blessing Muzarabani shining with impressive figures of 4/17.

The victory propelled Zimbabwe to the second spot in the Group B points table, having secured wins against Oman and Australia in their first two matches. The team is now gearing up to face Ireland and Sri Lanka in their remaining group-stage fixtures on February 17 and 19, respectively.

In conclusion, Sikandar Raza’s leadership and the team’s collective effort have been instrumental in Zimbabwe’s success in the T20 World Cup. As they continue their campaign, Raza’s message of staying grounded and focused serves as a reminder of the challenges that lie ahead. The Zimbabwean team’s resilience and determination will be crucial in their quest for further glory in the tournament.
