Drunk Driver Going 105 mph Causes Life-Threatening Injuries in Chicago Crash

A horrifying incident unfolded on June 25, 2025, on the West Side of Chicago when a drunk driver, identified as Joshua Orozco, was speeding at 105 mph and ran a red light at the intersection of Washington Boulevard and Western Avenue. The collision resulted in catastrophic injuries to a 30-year-old medical resident from Stroger Hospital.

The victim sustained a traumatic brain contusion and multiple facial fractures due to the impact of the crash. Orozco, driving a 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee, failed to stop at the red light and crashed into the victim’s Toyota Prius, causing severe damage.

According to a Chicago police report, data retrieved from Orozco’s airbag control module confirmed the high speed at which he was driving at the time of the accident. The force of the collision caused the Prius to spin and parts of the vehicle were ejected. Orozco’s Jeep continued westbound, flipping over as it collided with two trees, uprooting one and splitting another in half.

Despite causing such devastation, Orozco escaped with minor injuries. However, his blood alcohol concentration was recorded at approximately .155, nearly double the legal limit for driving. Upon questioning, Orozco confessed to being under the influence at the time of the crash, indicating his irresponsibility and disregard for public safety.

Surprisingly, Orozco was not immediately charged with aggravated DUI causing bodily harm. It remains unclear why there was a delay in filing the charges until recently. Judge Rivanda Doss Beal refused the state’s request to detain Orozco pending trial, allowing him to remain free.

Records reveal that Orozco was already facing a misdemeanor gun charge before the crash, which was dropped by prosecutors in September. This history of legal issues raises concerns about Orozco’s behavior and accountability.
