The Newport Beach Film Festival has recently announced the recipients of this year’s Icon and Artists of Distinction awards, set to be honored at the upcoming U.K. and Ireland Honors event. Hosted by Nick Mohammed and Edith Bowman, the event will recognize outstanding contributions to the entertainment industry.
Taking center stage as the recipient of the prestigious Icon Award is the talented comedian and actor, Jennifer Saunders. Known for her iconic roles in sitcom “Absolutely Fabulous” and sketch comedy series “French and Saunders” alongside Dawn French, Saunders has solidified her place in the industry. Her impressive resume includes appearances in global hits like “Shrek,” “Sing,” and “Death on the Nile,” showcasing her versatility as an actress. Fans can look forward to seeing her in Neal Street Productions’ upcoming blockbuster, “The Magic Faraway Tree,” where she will portray Grandma Thompson.
In addition to Saunders, the Artist of Distinction award will be presented to a group of esteemed individuals who have left a lasting impact on the U.K. and Ireland entertainment scene. This year’s honorees include Jack O’Connell, Sam Claflin, Shirley Henderson, Sophie Turner, and Timothy Spall, all of whom have made significant contributions to the industry over the years.
O’Connell, known for his roles in films like “Sinners” and “28 Years Later: The Bone Temple,” has received critical acclaim for his performances. Claflin, recognized for his work in “Hunger Games” and “Love, Rosie,” continues to impress audiences with his diverse range of roles.
