Zaldy is a renowned designer known for his extravagant costumes worn by high-energy performers such as Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, RuPaul, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Cher, and Cardi B. His impressive portfolio includes work for Gwen Stefani’s L.A.M.B. line, Victoria’s Secret, and Willy Chavarria. With three Emmys for Outstanding Costume Design under his belt, Zaldy has solidified his reputation as a master of creating show-stopping looks.
Despite his long and successful career, Zaldy managed to surprise everyone with his debut menswear collection, Boys Like Me, showcased at the iconic Chelsea Hotel where he lived and worked for two decades. The show was attended by a crowd of downtown legends, with Susanne Bartsch producing and Kelly Cutrone overseeing the event.
Backstage, amidst the chaos of half-dressed models in leather underwear and pleated culottes, Zaldy shared his inspiration for the collection. “I wasn’t trying to please anybody or think about the market. These are the clothes that I want to see. I hope people love it as much as I do, but I was willing to take that risk,” he explained. The collection is a reflection of his diverse moods, blending tailoring with glamour and day wear. Drawing inspiration from Leigh Bowery, the Victorian era, Armani, Ralph Lauren, women’s couture, and American Gigolo, Zaldy’s unique vision shines through in every piece.
The show was a spectacle of creativity and innovation, showcasing Zaldy’s ability to push boundaries and challenge the status quo. With his debut menswear collection, Zaldy has once again proven why he is a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry.
