The Extravagant Brides of Harris Reed

Step into the world of Harris Reed brides, where extravagance meets fantasy in a mesmerizing display of fashion. In a transformed ballroom at Claridges Hotel, four brides adorned in vibrant magenta, cerulean, and seafoam veils made their grand entrance. This marked the unveiling of London designer Harris Reed’s ‘Fluid Bridal’ range, featuring four distinct silhouettes that exude opulence and individuality.

Each gown tells a unique story, with designs like the Camille inspired by Reed’s first bespoke wedding dress created for Camille Charriere. The collection also includes a chantilly lace cowl-necked shirt embellished with crystals and flared pants reminiscent of the designer’s own wedding attire. The Debutante dress showcases the signature bubbly fishtail bottom that has become synonymous with the Harris Reed brand. Embracing showmanship and fantasy, Reed’s creations blur the lines of traditional gender norms, embodying a more mermaid-like allure.

Going beyond bridal wear, Reed delves into the essence of maximalism in his latest collection. Rejecting the notion of excess without intention, he views maximalism as a tool for character development. With 19 dazzling looks, his largest offering to date, Reed aims to infuse a sense of wearability into his theatrical designs. While maintaining the brand’s distinctive London essence, he seeks to expand the business on his own terms, including the upcoming launch of an interiors line.

The runway showcased a range of sartorial sculptures transformed into wearable art, such as Lindsey Wixson opening the show in a striking fuchsia bow skirt. Introducing new tailored silhouettes, tiger prints, devoré textures, and moiré fabrics, Reed explores a blend of bold patterns and textures. Departing from his previous Savile Row-inspired designs, the collection features elegant panniers, open backs, and avant-garde corsets with face-framing necklines and intricate detailing.

From gold quilts to burnt cobalt blue velvets, each piece encapsulates a sense of exaggeration yet offers a newfound sense of liberation. Whether adorned in an architectural jacquard bustier accented with Klein blue feathers or a statement corset paired with bootcut trousers, Reed’s designs challenge conventional fashion norms and invite wearers to embrace their individuality.
