Roksanda Ilincic, the renowned fashion designer, made a bold decision this season by forgoing a traditional fashion show. Instead, she announced the exciting news of opening a popup store on Sloane Street, right next to luxury brands like Chanel and Pucci. The spacious popup store promises to be a hub of creativity and style.
During my visit to Ilincic’s penthouse showroom located next to the Museum of the Home in the East End of London, I was captivated by the vibrant and sophisticated collection on display. The racks were meticulously color-coded, showcasing a range of hues from deep greens and blacks to bright pinks and grays. Ilincic drew inspiration from artists like Gabriele Beverage and Dragan Drobnjak, whose work in glass and sculpture influenced the fluid and elegant silhouettes of her designs.
Ilincic shared that she began working on this collection last July with a focus on creating pieces that seamlessly transition from day to evening wear. Her muse for this collection was Carlo Scarpa’s iconic Tomba Brion in Italy, known for its mesmerizing play of light and shadow. Drawing from Scarpa’s circular motifs, she incorporated cut-out circles in oversized jackets and handbags, adding a touch of whimsy and versatility to each piece.
The collection features exquisite fabrics sourced from Italian mills, including a delicate organza cloqué in rich copper and vibrant pink tones. Ilincic expertly blends daywear and eveningwear elements, offering jacket-shirt hybrids that can be styled with tailored trousers or draped over satin evening dresses. The attention to detail is evident in every piece, from the buttoned triangular panels to the cascading scarves that add a touch of sophistication.
For evening ensembles, Ilincic presents striking satin sheath dresses in bold colors like pink and orange, reminiscent of ’90s glamour. The collection culminates in a show-stopping blue taffeta gown with cascading ruffles that exude drama and elegance.
With a keen eye for detail and a passion for innovation, Roksanda Ilincic’s latest collection is a testament to her unique vision and creativity. The popup store on Sloane Street promises to be a fashion destination that celebrates artistry and individuality.
