The New England Patriots suffered a tough loss to the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl LX, with defensive tackle Christian Barmore’s sideline comment sparking a lot of controversy. In a clip captured during the game, Barmore can be heard telling Milton Williams, “It wasn’t us, Bro. It wasn’t us, man.”

The comment led to speculation that Barmore was distancing himself and the defensive unit from responsibility for the loss. However, Paul Perillo, speaking on “Patriots Unfiltered,” disagreed with this interpretation. He supported Evan Lazar’s view that the player’s intention in the video was not definitive.

Perillo stated, “The Barmore thing is not about an edit, it’s about how it’s perceived. And I think Evan’s explanation is more than plausible. That he might not be pointing fingers … But some people said he seems like he’s calling out the offense.”

He continued, “And I think Evan could be right. He might just be saying, ‘This isn’t us. Like, this ain’t us as a team or as a defense stopping the run.’ He might have just been talking to Milton Williams. ‘This ain’t us. You and me. We’re not stopping the run. We’ve stopped the run all year, and this guy’s running all over us.’”

Regardless of the interpretation of the video, it’s evident that Barmore was expressing frustration at the team’s disappointing performance in the crucial game. The Patriots fell short in all aspects of the game when it mattered most.

Paul Perillo also shed light on how NFL Films can sometimes mislead fans with its production. He pointed out factual discrepancies in the Christian Barmore video that didn’t align with the actual sequence of events during the game.

He explained, “The edits and the cuts to me are a different thing, and they do this every year. Sometimes they’re very good at what they do. But sometimes you can go and you can look, and when you’re a psychotic like me and you recognize certain situations of the game. You can tell that they put that edit in the middle of the third quarter. That play happened in the beginning of the first quarter. And you can see it. And they do that all the time. … NFL Films does sort of creatively edit some of these things at times. They’re trying to tell a narrative, and sometimes it’s deceiving.”

Christian Barmore played a significant role in the Patriots’ success in 2025, forming a formidable defensive tackle duo with Milton Williams. Despite their strong defensive performance throughout the season, the criticism directed at Barmore following the viral video has been intense.

In conclusion, the controversy surrounding Christian Barmore’s comment highlights the intense scrutiny and pressure faced by players in high-stakes games like the Super Bowl. The interpretation of a single moment can spark widespread debate and misunderstanding, emphasizing the importance of context and perspective in analyzing player actions on and off the field.
