As “Beyond the Gates” celebrates its one-year anniversary, executive producer Sheila Ducksworth reflects on the journey that led to the creation of the groundbreaking CBS daytime soap opera. Ducksworth’s passion for soap operas dates back to her childhood, where she was inspired by the lack of representation on screen while watching “General Hospital.” This childhood dream eventually brought her to Los Angeles with a mission to create a soap opera that would resonate with audiences.
The show, which follows the wealthy Black Dupree family in a gated DMV-area community, has garnered a dedicated fan base since its launch in February 2024. With over 230 episodes across two seasons, “Beyond the Gates” has become a staple in daytime television. One of the upcoming highlights includes a crossover event with CBS’s iconic soap opera “The Young and the Restless,” bringing together beloved characters from both shows for an exciting storyline.
In addition to the crossover event, “Beyond the Gates” will feature special guest appearances by CBS Mornings anchor Gayle King and actress Tamara Tunie in an episode focused on breast cancer awareness. Ducksworth believes that this episode has the power to not only raise awareness but also save lives. The show has other exciting episodes planned, including a cotillion episode in May and a surprise guest star for an Easter episode.
Developed through the CBS Studios-NAACP content partnership, “Beyond the Gates” is a testament to Ducksworth’s persistence and vision. Working alongside head writer Michelle Val Jean and producing partner Procter & Gamble, Ducksworth has brought her dream to life with a diverse and engaging storyline. As the show celebrates its one-year anniversary, Ducksworth is grateful for the opportunity to share her vision with audiences.
The success of “Beyond the Gates” is a testament to Ducksworth’s dedication and commitment to creating a soap opera that resonates with viewers. With exciting storylines, diverse representation, and special guest appearances, the show continues to push boundaries in daytime television. As the show moves forward, Ducksworth remains focused on creating compelling content that entertains and inspires audiences.
