The Los Angeles Police Department made a significant breakthrough on Wednesday by arresting five individuals in Corona who were allegedly involved in a multi-million dollar cargo theft ring. The suspects were apprehended as part of an extensive investigation targeting thefts of cargo and container chassis used by big-rig trucks.

Following the execution of search warrants, law enforcement agencies uncovered a staggering $5 million worth of stolen merchandise. The seized items included 84 stolen container chassis, 11 tractors, 25 vehicles, six all-terrain vehicles, and two heavy-duty forklifts with suspected fraudulent vehicle identification numbers. Additionally, over $300,000 in cash, three firearms, and various digital devices were confiscated during the operation.

Among the seized items were a collection of luxury cars and sports cars, which were prominently displayed in photos shared by the LAPD. The successful bust was a result of collaboration between the LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division Cargo Theft Task Force, the Los Angeles Port Police, California Department of Justice Tax Recovery in the Underground Economy Program (TRUE), and the California Department of Motor Vehicles Investigations Division.

In a statement, LAPD officials highlighted the joint effort that led to the recovery of over $5 million worth of stolen property. The investigation is ongoing, with more arrests anticipated in the future. The five individuals arrested in connection with the theft ring have been released pending court dates next month and are facing felony charges of grand theft.

The individuals identified by the LAPD include Jose Del Toro Sr., Maria Ramos, Malissa Del Toro, Jose Del Toro Jr., and Yairet Jimenez, all residents of Corona. At the time of writing, representatives for the accused could not be reached for comment on the matter.

The successful operation serves as a reminder of the dedicated efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating organized crime and protecting businesses from theft and fraud. The LAPD’s swift action in dismantling the cargo theft ring underscores the importance of collaborative enforcement efforts in ensuring the safety and security of communities.
