Quentin Garel’s sculptures of lifelike mammals with wise expressions are truly captivating. Currently on display at Galerie LJ in Paris, his solo exhibition titled “Dans la Forêt Lontaine” or “In the Faraway Forest” showcases a range of stunning creatures. From a deer with majestic antlers to an ibex with elegant horns, each sculpture exudes a sense of vulnerability and strength.

Garel’s work blurs the lines between reality and fantasy, highlighting the plight of animals threatened by overhunting. The sculptures are often displayed on walls or mounted on metal rods, reminiscent of hunting trophies. The artist’s attention to detail is evident in his use of the wood’s natural grain to accentuate the creatures’ musculature, creating a sense of movement and life within the static sculptures.

One of Garel’s commissioned series for a public installation in Thonon-les-Bains, France, focuses on mountain animals and aims to shed light on the senseless act of hunting for sport. Bronze casts of the pieces currently exhibited at Galerie LJ will be installed in a large wall fountain in Thonon-les-Bains, further emphasizing the message of conservation and preservation.

The exhibition “Dans la Forêt Lontaine” runs until November 23 in Paris, offering viewers a chance to experience Garel’s captivating sculptures up close. To see more of Garel’s work, visit his Instagram profile.

From a wooden sculpture of a human face to a deer-like creature with human legs, Garel’s creations are both thought-provoking and visually stunning. Each piece tells a story and invites viewers to contemplate the relationship between humans and the natural world. Don’t miss the opportunity to immerse yourself in the enchanting world of Quentin Garel’s sculptures.
