Two Men Sentenced to Prison After Being Shot by Concealed Carry Holder in Loop

Sebon Grisby, left, and Dangelo Webb (Chicago Police Department)

Two men who were shot by a concealed carry holder in the Loop after an attempted car theft have received prison sentences to go along with their gunshot wounds.

The incident occurred overnight in December 2022 outside the Cambria Hotel on West Randolph Street. The concealed carry holder had started his 2020 black Dodge Charger with the fob and was approaching the vehicle when he noticed a red Jeep near his car with someone trying to enter it. Moments later, someone in the Jeep began shooting at him, prompting him to return fire in self-defense, according to prosecutors.

As the Jeep attempted to flee the scene, the concealed carry holder fired three more rounds. Simultaneously, another man emerged from the Dodge Charger, dropped a small computer used for car theft, and fled on foot.

Deangelo Webb, who had a gunshot wound to his knee, was captured on surveillance cameras at Northwestern Memorial Hospital tossing loaded ammunition magazines from the red Jeep as he arrived at the emergency entrance. On the other hand, Sebon Grisby was seen running and limping away from the scene, eventually seeking help from two women on Wabash Avenue after showing them his gunshot wound.

Webb, 28, pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, while Grisby, 26, pleaded guilty to burglary. Both men were sentenced to four years in prison by Judge James Obbish. However, their sentences will be reduced to two years for good behavior, with a further reduction of 698 credit days earned while awaiting trial. It is expected that both men will be eligible for parole in approximately a month.
