Heavy Snow Causes Flight Delays and Cancellations at Denver International Airport

On Friday, a total of 191 flights were canceled and 137 were delayed at Denver International Airport as heavy snowfall hit metro Denver and Colorado’s eastern plains. Despite the disruptions, the average delay time for arriving flights was less than 15 minutes, as reported by the Federal Aviation Administration.

A traffic management program was implemented by the FAA due to the inclement weather conditions, potentially affecting both arriving and departing flights. As of 9:30 a.m., there were a total of 328 delayed and canceled flights at DIA, according to Flight Aware. SkyWest had the highest number of cancellations with 154, followed by Frontier with 30. SkyWest also reported 61 delays, with United following closely behind with 32.

Flight data from Flight Aware indicated that on Thursday, 1,068 flights at DIA were delayed, and on Wednesday, 1,092 flights faced delays. DIA spokesman Michael Konopasek mentioned that the airport was operating at full capacity for deicing operations, with one of the six runways closed for treatment and cleaning. The cleaning process for each runway takes approximately 17 minutes.
