Chicago Man Sentenced to Federal Prison for Robbing Electrical Workers

A Chicago man, Marquise Ramyyeh, has been sentenced to 116 months in federal prison for robbing three electrical workers at gunpoint in broad daylight. Prosecutors revealed that this crime was part of an escalating pattern of high-value thefts that date back to when Ramyyeh was just 16 years old.

However, Ramyyeh’s legal troubles may not be over yet. He also has a pending case in state court where he faces accusations of being part of a crash-and-grab burglary crew that stole $210,000 worth of merchandise from the Louis Vuitton store on Michigan Avenue.

In the federal case, Ramyyeh, now 21, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Rebecca Pallmeyer after pleading guilty to participating in the robbery of a utility crew at gunpoint near the intersection of 97th Street and Dr. Martin Luther King Drive on December 6, 2023.

According to court documents, Ramyyeh and three co-defendants arrived in a stolen Jeep Cherokee and threatened the workers with guns while they were installing a natural gas pipeline. They stole approximately $25,000 worth of specialized pipeline equipment before fleeing the scene.

Police later located the stolen Jeep, and as they closed in, Ramyyeh attempted to flee on foot and discarded a loaded Glock pistol. Officers were able to recover all the stolen equipment.

Prosecutors had requested a longer sentence of 130 months, citing Ramyyeh’s complete disregard for human life and high risk of reoffending. Judge Pallmeyer sentenced him to 32 months for the robbery and an additional mandatory 84 months for brandishing a firearm during a violent crime.

It was noted in court documents that Ramyyeh was on state supervised release at the time of the robbery, having been released just three months earlier after serving time for a weapons charge related to a prior theft incident. In that case, he had also discarded a loaded firearm while fleeing police.

In a separate Cook County case, Ramyyeh and his co-defendants are accused of stealing $210,000 worth of purses from the Louis Vuitton boutique inside Nordstrom on Michigan Avenue just weeks before the pipeline worker robbery.

Ramyyeh’s co-defendants, Kahdaffie Green, Jahjuan Green, and Chaqwon Birden, are also facing charges in the federal indictment. Green is additionally implicated in the Louis Vuitton theft.
