Drew McIntyre Takes a Dig at Cody Rhodes’ Reign as Undisputed WWE Champion
Drew McIntyre, the current Undisputed WWE Champion, didn’t hold back when discussing Cody Rhodes’ reign as the face of the company. In a recent interview on Unlikely with Adrian Hernandez at the WWE 2K26 Creator Fest, McIntyre made it clear that he believes Rhodes had a less-than-exciting run as champion.
Rhodes, who defeated John Cena at SummerSlam to become the Undisputed WWE Champion, faced McIntyre multiple times before ultimately losing the title to him on an episode of SmackDown in Berlin, Germany. McIntyre didn’t hesitate to criticize Rhodes, stating, “The show is a lot more exciting right now. Much, much more exciting. Come on. It was the same every week. It was like watching repeat every week when Cody was champion.”
The Scottish Psychopath continued, “Look at him now with his little edge, so angry the time right now. That’s my favorite Cody. They say Cody’s the most dangerous when he’s chasing, but you know what? Drew McIntyre is the most dangerous when I’m champion.”
As McIntyre prepares to defend his title at WrestleMania 42, he will face tough competition inside the Elimination Chamber. Competing against the likes of Cody Rhodes, Jey Uso, Randy Orton, Je’Von Evans, Trick Williams, and LA Knight, McIntyre will have to be at the top of his game to retain his championship.
Meanwhile, Cody Rhodes has been facing a new challenge of his own as he starts to receive boos from the WWE Universe. In an interview on ESPN’s UnSportsmanLike, Rhodes addressed the mixed reactions he has been receiving, especially in certain cities where he is being booed.
Rhodes acknowledged the chants against him, stating, “I’m in a funky spot as a wrestler on the show now, where not every game is a home game anymore. Started getting some ‘Let’s go, Cody/Cody sucks!’ Started getting some ‘Cody sucks’ places. … The energy is all that matters, so it’s not a thing.”
While there have been rumors of Rhodes possibly turning heel, he has expressed his preference for working as a babyface in recent months. Despite the challenges he faces, Rhodes remains committed to his role as one of the top stars in WWE.
As the drama unfolds in the world of WWE, fans can expect to see intense rivalries and unexpected twists leading up to WrestleMania 42. With McIntyre and Rhodes at the center of the action, the road to the grandest stage of them all promises to be full of excitement and suspense.
