Amy Gross, a seasoned commercial textile designer, has transitioned from digital work to creating tangible and immediate pieces of art. Her journey led her to craft beaded jewelry, seeking a more tactile experience. Over time, her beading techniques evolved into three-dimensional canvases, reflecting personal narratives that she felt compelled to share.

These sculptural objects, inspired by the natural world, serve as a testament to Gross’ long-standing fascination with scale. For her, size is not the focus; rather, it’s about capturing what holds significance. Beads, thread, yarn, and paper come together to form ethereal, miniature ecosystems that transport viewers to otherworldly realms.

Gross’s artistry delves into the realms of flora, fungi, and even fauna, drawing parallels to the intricate wonders of the planet’s smallest inhabitants. Her creations feature mushrooms, roots, leaves, blossoms, and tiny creatures, serving as a contemplative reflection on the interconnectedness of all living beings. She incorporates motifs reminiscent of microscopic elements like spores, pollen, viruses, molecules, and cells, highlighting the delicate balance that sustains our world.

Currently showcased at Momentum Gallery in Asheville, Gross’s work will also be featured in a group exhibition at the Fuller Craft Museum in Massachusetts. Additionally, one of her sculptures will be included in an upcoming book by Phaidon that explores the theme of fungi. To explore more of Amy Gross’s captivating work, visit her Instagram profile.

Each piece crafted by Gross is a testament to her unwavering fascination with the intricacies of nature and the unseen forces that shape our world. Through her art, she invites viewers to contemplate the beauty and fragility of our environment, urging us to recognize the interconnectedness of all living beings.
