Turning Point Action Conference to Feature Global Far-Right Politicians

Next week, Turning Point Action, an organization established by the late conservative firebrand Charlie Kirk, will host a gathering in Washington, D.C. that promises to unite U.S. and international figures from the far-right political spectrum. The event, named the Alliance of Sovereign Nations, is set to take place from March 4 to 6.

Among the notable attendees is Markus Frohnmaier, a prominent member of Germany’s far-right party, Alternative fĂĽr Deutschland (AfD). Other confirmed participants include House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.), Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R-Fla.), and various European politicians such as George Simion, founder of Romania’s far-right Alliance for the Union of Romanians, as well as members of the European Parliament from parties like Vlaams Belang and Austria’s Freiheitliche Partei (FPĂ–).

Tyler Bowyer, the Chief Operating Officer of Turning Point Action, stated in a recent interview that the event was “spurred” by Rep. Luna’s initiative and hinted that additional attendees would be revealed shortly. He characterized the represented political factions, including the AfD, as “center-right,” a label that is as contentious as it is perplexing.

It is worth noting that Germany’s Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution has, as of May 2025, classified segments of the AfD as “proven right-wing extremist.” This designation is based on the party’s alleged threats to the democratic framework of Germany and its anti-migrant rhetoric. However, the AfD has contested this ruling legally, and a court recently issued a temporary suspension of this classification while the case proceeds.

“There are numerous representatives from various countries advocating for center-right politics. It’s crucial to hear all perspectives,” Bowyer remarked. He added, “Germany is facing significant challenges, and we must listen to everyone.”

Spokespeople for both Johnson and Luna opted not to comment on the gathering. However, Luna took to social media to announce, “Next week, members of government from around the world will be coming together at the Alliance of Sovereign Nations! @SpeakerJohnson will be there!”

The conference’s stated mission underscores the belief that “every country has a rightful obligation to defend its sovereignty and put their interests first,” as noted on its official website. The event is also backed by Republicans for National Renewal, further cementing its far-right credentials.

Support for the AfD appears to be growing in the current political landscape of Washington, D.C. High-profile Republicans, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President JD Vance, have publicly criticized the classification of the AfD as extremist. Frohnmaier has made several visits to Washington recently, meeting with Luna, other Republican officials, and State Department representatives. The U.S. State Department has accused the German government of suppressing freedom of expression, a claim that Germany strongly contests. Sarah Rogers, the Undersecretary of State for Diplomacy, recently labeled a criminal investigation by German authorities against a critic of Chancellor Friedrich Merz as “a case of lèse-majesté.”

In October, Luna tweeted about her meeting with Anna Rathert, a member of Germany’s Bundestag affiliated with the AfD, and she has expressed admiration for the party’s efforts to strengthen U.S.-German relations. She has publicly criticized the German Chancellor for what she characterizes as “trashing our president and censoring German citizens.”

Last November, in an interview with Welt, Luna described the conference as a counter to the World Economic Forum in Davos, emphasizing a focus on “the sovereignty of nations.” As it stands, the AfD currently ranks second in German opinion polls, trailing only the ruling Christian Democrats.

Notably, Frohnmaier was honored at the New York Young Republican Club gala last December for the AfD’s “courageous work undertaken in the particularly suppressive and hostile political environment of Germany.” This accolade comes in stark contrast to the recent disbandment of the New York State Young Republicans chapter, following revelations of leaders in a group chat who praised Adolf Hitler and made light of the Holocaust.
