A disturbing incident occurred in Upper Manhattan last week when a trench coat-wearing maniac randomly attacked four women as they walked in the area, according to the authorities. The victims, aged 52, 24, and two aged 35, were assaulted around 7 p.m. on February 12 at West 122nd Street and Broadway in Morningside Heights. The assailant punched each woman in the face before fleeing the scene heading south on Broadway.
Despite the unprovoked attacks, all of the women refused medical attention except for one of the 35-year-olds, who was taken to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital and listed in stable condition. The police confirmed that the attacker did not know any of the victims, and the assaults were completely random.
It remains unclear whether the women were walking together or separately at the time of the attacks. The NYPD has released footage and photos of the suspect, described as a lanky, bearded man wearing a black trench coat over a tan and gray jacket, blue jeans, and white and red sneakers. He was also seen carrying something in a plastic bag and flashing a grin as he walked down the street.
Authorities are urging anyone with information on the suspect’s whereabouts to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Tips can also be submitted online at the Crime Stoppers website or through X @NYPDTips.
The community is advised to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to help apprehend the individual responsible for these senseless attacks.
