A recent arrest in Florida has shed light on a massive cryptocurrency Ponzi scheme that defrauded investors of over $328 million. Christopher Alexander Delgado, a 34-year-old from Apopka, Florida, was taken into custody on charges of wire fraud and money laundering. If convicted, Delgado could face up to 30 years in federal prison.

Delgado was the president and CEO of Goliath Ventures, previously known as Gen-Z Venture Firm, and allegedly orchestrated the Ponzi scheme from January 2023 to January 2026. The scheme involved Delgado enticing investors with false promises of monthly returns from cryptocurrency liquidity pools. A Ponzi scheme operates by using funds from new investors to pay returns to existing investors.

Investors were lured into the scheme through personal referrals, professional marketing materials, luxury events, charitable sponsorships, and monthly payments of returns to establish Goliath’s credibility. However, instead of investing in cryptocurrency as promised, Delgado used the funds to pay returns to earlier investors, return principal to those who requested it, and fund extravagant business events, parties, and travel expenses.

Delgado also allegedly used investor funds to purchase four residential properties valued between $1.15 million and $8.5 million each. Victims of the scheme will be notified of their rights under the Crime Victims’ Rights Act, and those who have not received a notice can contact the IRS through a dedicated email for Goliath victims.

The investigation into this case is being conducted by the IRS Criminal Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security. It is important to note that criminal complaints are accusations, and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty. Victims can self-identify to law enforcement through the Department of Justice’s webpage for this case.

The arrest of Delgado serves as a reminder of the risks associated with cryptocurrency investments and the importance of conducting thorough due diligence before committing funds. Investors should be wary of promises of guaranteed returns and conduct proper research before investing in any scheme.
