Concerned residents in Arizona are hurrying to install panic rooms following the abduction of Nancy Guthrie, who remains missing almost a month after being taken from her home in Tucson.
Kevin Hand from Sportsman Steel Safes, known for creating break-in-resistant safe rooms, shared with the Daily Mail that his business has experienced a surge in inquiries for the installation of secure steel doors and hidden rooms in homes.
“Since the Guthrie case, there has been a significant increase in calls and business,” Hand stated, highlighting the fear among people that they could be forcibly taken from their homes with no trace left behind.
While Sportsman Steel Safes has been constructing heavy-duty doors and safe rooms for affluent clients in Texas and California for years, middle-class families in Arizona have now become their latest clientele, with appointments already fully booked for weeks ahead.
The disappearance of Guthrie, who is the 84-year-old mother of “Today” show personality Savannah Guthrie, has prompted individuals to consider their safety measures in case of a break-in.
“People are contemplating the possibility of a break-in and are taking proactive steps to protect themselves and their loved ones,” Hand added.
