Spotify Launches Audiobook Charts for U.S. and U.K.
Spotify has officially announced the launch of Audiobook Charts for the U.S. and U.K., adding to their existing Music and Podcast Charts. These new charts will be updated weekly and showcase the top audiobooks overall as well as by genre, based on user listening behavior and engagement on the platform.
The Audiobook Charts are now accessible to both free and premium users within the audiobooks hub on Spotify. To find them, users can simply tap the search button in the app, select the “Audiobooks” tile, and scroll down to the “Dive deeper” section to discover the charts.
This latest move represents Spotify’s continued investment in the audiobooks space since officially supporting the format in 2022. The company has introduced additional features like the “Page Match” tool, allowing users to seamlessly transition between physical books and audiobooks, as well as “Audiobook Recaps” for quick summaries.
According to Duncan Bruce, Spotify’s Director of Audiobook Partnerships and Licensing, the new Audiobook Charts aim to benefit both readers and authors by offering a reliable way to discover popular titles and expanding opportunities for authors and the publishing industry to reach wider audiences.
Spotify’s foray into audiobooks aligns with their broader strategy to make content more accessible and enjoyable for users, ultimately driving demand for diverse forms of media. By providing a platform for users, publishers, and authors to explore trending audiobooks in real-time, Spotify aims to foster a stronger connection between books and culture.
While Spotify’s focus on audiobooks is evident, the streaming giant has also diversified its offerings by entering the realm of physical book sales. In a recent announcement, Spotify revealed plans to enable users in the U.S. and U.K. to purchase physical books directly within the app through a partnership with Bookshop.org.
