But actually, she’s kind of frozen. And I thought, well, the most frozen you could be is if you’re pregnant. Because then you’re literally waiting for something to happen to you, and you can’t move on until it does. And I liked that idea of her being stuck in this moment, in this liminal space, waiting for something to change. It felt right for the character and it felt like a really strong way to express that she was stuck in time.

As for the season finale, which aired last Friday, viewers were shocked to discover that Mac (played by David Thewlis) was the killer all along. Oakley revealed that this twist was planned from the beginning.

“It was always going to be Mac,” Oakley said. “I wanted to make sure that the killer was someone that you wouldn’t necessarily suspect, but also someone who was deeply connected to the community and could have a reason for doing what they did. I think David did an incredible job of playing Mac as this kind, caring neighbor who also had this dark side to him. It was a really challenging role, and I think he nailed it.”

As for the future of the show, Oakley remained tight-lipped about whether there would be a second season.

“We’ll have to wait and see,” she said. “I think there’s definitely more story to tell, but it would have to be the right story. I wouldn’t want to do a second season just for the sake of it. If there’s a compelling reason to bring Jackie and Bull back together, then I’d be open to it. But we’ll have to see what the future holds.”

It’s not often that we get a behind-the-scenes look at how some of our favorite TV shows are made, but in a recent interview, the creator of the hit series “Under Salt Marsh” shared some fascinating insights into the making of the show. In particular, they shed light on some of the most challenging and memorable scenes from the series.

One of the standout scenes from the show is in Episode 6, where a massive wave hits a car in the village. The creator revealed that the entire village set was built on the back lot of Dragon Studios in Cardiff, with a special concrete pad created to support the weight of the set and the water. They described the challenges of working in knee-high water in freezing January temperatures and the intricate process of creating the wave using a slide and massive buckets of water on cranes.

Another memorable scene involved a room filling with water while a character is trapped inside. The creator explained that this scene was shot on a hydraulic set that lowered into a tank of water, while the door opening was filmed in a separate set with a stunt person. The attention to detail and creativity behind the scenes truly brought these intense moments to life on screen.

When asked about the identity of the show’s murderer, the creator revealed that they hadn’t planned out the entire series when writing the pilot. It wasn’t until later in the production process that the killer’s identity was decided upon, leading to a collaborative effort with other writers to flesh out the second half of the series.

Despite the challenges and uncertainties throughout the production process, the creator emphasized that the organic development of the story ultimately led to a more authentic and engaging narrative. The dedication and creativity of the cast and crew, combined with the unique vision of the creator, culminated in the gripping and suspenseful series that captivated audiences.

As fans eagerly await the next season of “Under Salt Marsh,” these insights into the making of the show offer a deeper appreciation for the hard work and creativity that goes into bringing a thrilling TV series to life. After carefully selecting Mac as the killer in the story, the focus shifted to ensuring that his reveal would be both impactful and believable. The goal was for readers to have a moment of realization, rather than confusion or disbelief. The intention was for the revelation to make sense and not come across as too outlandish.

The decision to have Mac’s motivation be related to the toxic waste rather than something sexually or emotionally driven was a deliberate choice. The aim was to explore the idea that under certain circumstances, an ordinary person could be driven to commit a heinous act. Mac’s actions were portrayed as a result of immense pressure and a warped sense of reality, rather than malicious intent. The crime he committed was a means of self-preservation, a desperate attempt to maintain his reputation and standing in the community. The underlying theme was questioning the morality of our actions and the sacrifices we make in the name of progress.

As for the possibility of a second season featuring Jackie and Bull reuniting, it is currently being considered. The creators are exploring different avenues for continuing the story, should the show be renewed for another season.

In conclusion, the intricacies of character motivations and the potential for future storylines are being carefully considered. The hope is to continue to engage audiences with thought-provoking narratives that challenge perceptions and keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
