Team India head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Shivam Dube’s two crucial boundaries as being as important as Sanju Samson’s unbeaten 97 in the T20 World Cup 2026 match against the West Indies. Gambhir emphasized the significance of both big knocks and small contributions in a game of cricket.

In a thrilling encounter at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 1, India clinched a crucial victory over the West Indies by five wickets, securing their spot in the semifinals of the ICC event. Chasing a challenging target of 196, Samson played a sublime innings, scoring an unbeaten 97 off just 50 deliveries. Towards the end of the innings, Dube played a brief but impactful cameo, hitting two boundaries to finish with eight not out off four balls.

During the post-match press conference, Gambhir highlighted the importance of recognizing every contribution in a team sport like cricket. He stated, “For too many years, we have only spoken about certain contributions. This is a team sport and this will always remain one. For me, Shivam’s two boundaries are as important as Sanju’s 97 because, if he wouldn’t have hit those, probably that 97, you wouldn’t have even spoken about.” He emphasized the significance of small contributions in achieving victory in a game.

India faced a tense moment in their chase when Hardik Pandya was dismissed for 17 off 14 balls in the penultimate over. However, Dube’s quickfire boundaries helped ease the pressure on Samson and ultimately played a vital role in India’s victory over the West Indies.

Looking ahead to the semifinals, where India will lock horns with England at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on March 5, Gambhir acknowledged the challenge posed by the English team. He recognized England as a world-class side with several quality players and emphasized the need for a special effort from Team India to overcome their formidable opponents.

India and England have a history of intense battles in T20 World Cup semifinals, with England emerging victorious in 2022 and India claiming victory in 2024. Gambhir expressed optimism about India’s chances but emphasized the importance of executing their plans effectively to outclass a quality side like England.

As Team India gears up for the crucial semifinal clash, Gambhir’s strategic insights and emphasis on the value of contributions from every player will serve as motivation for the team. With the semifinal showdown on the horizon, Indian cricket fans eagerly await another thrilling encounter between two powerhouse teams in the T20 World Cup 2026.
