Four Chilean nationals were recently caught on camera breaking into a jewelry store in Southern California, showcasing their crime in a bold and brazen manner. The group of thieves, who broke through the wall of Dr Conkey’s Candy and Coffee Shop in Simi Valley to access a safe belonging to Five Star Jewelry and Watch Repair, filmed themselves in the act.

The video footage released by the Ventura County District Attorney’s Office shows the perpetrators using a crowbar to break into the safe, before sorting through over $3 million worth of stolen watches, bracelets, and other jewelry at their apartment in LA County. In a shocking display of audacity, one of the crew members even reveals his face to the camera while flaunting the stolen goods.

Ventura County District Attorney Erik Nasarenko condemned the sophisticated planning and execution of the crime, stating that the defendants needed to be removed from society. He emphasized that Ventura County will not tolerate organized burglary crews targeting their communities.

Two of the defendants, Manuel Ibarra and Camilo Lara, have been sentenced to four years and four months in jail, while Heidi Trujillo is serving a four-year sentence. The fourth defendant, Sergio Andres Mejía-Machuca, is set to be sentenced in March.

Prior to the break-in, the thieves conducted surveillance on the area, checking for security cameras and inspecting the adjoining wall that connected the candy and jewelry store. Five days later, armed with a rope, ladder, and other tools, they returned to the scene and gained access to the building through the roof before breaking into the safe.

Upon their arrest on June 10, some of the burglars were found wearing the stolen jewelry, while others were carrying the merchandise in bags. The brazen nature of their crime and the subsequent footage of their actions have shocked the community and law enforcement officials alike. The boldness and sophistication of this burglary crew serve as a stark reminder of the lengths some criminals will go to for ill-gotten gains.
