Honoring Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

This March, as we observe Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, we unite with every individual bravely confronting colon and rectal cancer. We honor the memories of those who have succumbed to this disease and reaffirm our commitment to creating a future marked by health, resilience, and the hopeful aspiration of a cancer-free society.

The Stark Reality of Colorectal Cancer

In 2023, projections indicate that colorectal cancer—currently the leading cancer-related cause of death for individuals under 50—will tragically take the lives of approximately 55,000 Americans. This form of cancer often develops silently, eluding detection until it has progressed significantly. However, the silver lining is that it is highly manageable with timely detection and diagnosis. Therefore, I urge all Americans to take charge of their health by staying informed about their family medical histories and potential risk factors. Regular screenings are advised to commence at age 45, while maintaining a healthy weight, engaging in consistent physical activity, and adhering to a balanced diet can significantly contribute to cancer prevention.

Our Commitment to Health

My administration is dedicated to tackling the underlying causes of chronic diseases, including cancer, that devastate countless lives across the nation. Last year, I initiated the Make America Healthy Again Commission, which aims to prioritize the well-being of our citizens. I commend the relentless efforts of our nation’s innovative researchers, healthcare professionals, and scientists who are committed to discovering cures and pioneering treatments that facilitate earlier detection and improve the quality of life for cancer patients.

Remembering and Supporting Those Affected

This month serves as a poignant reminder of those whose lives have been cut short by colorectal cancer. Our thoughts and prayers extend to the families and friends mourning the loss of loved ones. We seek divine strength, courage, and hope for those engaged in this fierce battle against cancer—and, above all, we pledge to maintain our relentless pursuit of a healthier future for all Americans.
