Paula Deen Closes The Lady & Sons Restaurant After N-Word Scandal
After the highly publicized N-word scandal that rocked her career, Paula Deen has faced major setbacks in her professional life. The celebrity chef lost lucrative endorsements, a book deal, and her TV show as a result of the controversy.
One of the casualties of the fallout was her iconic restaurant, The Lady & Sons, which had been a staple in Savannah for decades. Unfortunately, due to the negative publicity surrounding Deen, the restaurant was forced to shutter its doors.
Last year, Deen made the difficult decision to close both The Lady & Sons and another nearby spot, The Chicken Box. In a statement, she expressed her gratitude to loyal customers and dedicated staff members who had been part of the restaurant’s success over the years.
“Hey, y’all, my sons and I made the heartfelt decision that Thursday, July 31st, was the last day of service for The Lady & Sons and The Chicken Box,” she announced. “Thank you for all the great memories and for your loyalty over the past 36 years. We have endless love and gratitude for every customer who has walked through our doors.”
Despite the closure of these beloved establishments, Deen remains committed to her culinary ventures. She revealed plans to focus on the four remaining Paula Deen’s Family Kitchen locations across the country, located in Pigeon Forge, Myrtle Beach, Nashville, and Branson.
“Savannah will always be our home, and we’ll always be here to support our wonderful community,” Deen shared. “We are excited to continue serving delicious Southern cuisine at our other locations and look forward to the next chapter in our journey.”
